Tales of the abyss's story stars a 17 year old Luke fon Fabre who is the young son of the Duke of the Kimlasca Kingdom. Luke is known as the Light of the Sacred Flame and the scion of Lorelei's power he is destined to bring prosperity to Kimlasca though he doesn't know it at first.
Luke is very sheltered and isn't allowed to see much of the world. This has much to do with him being kidnapped at a young age the events of the kidnapping wiped all his memories beforehand. One day he is training with his combat master and a mysterious girl infiltrates his manor. She attacks his master but look defends him causing a reaction sending him and the girl (tear) far away from the kingdom. These events lead Luke to travel with the girl to head back home though to his kingdom. Though on the way their Luke learns that what he thought was may not be in a sense. As such he goes through a lot of changes with his companions and in the end his quest leads him and his group on a journey to stop an evil force from changing the world as they know it forever.
