The following is the changes that differ from Ninja Gaiden 3 to Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge:
- Additional graphical gore and blood.
- Additional weapons from Ninja Gaiden 2.
- Upgrade system based on Karma, accessible at any point in the game.
- Return of collectibles: Golden and Silver Scarabs and Crystal Skulls.
- Challenge mode.
- Addition of playable characters: Ayane, Momiji and Kasumi to Chapter Challenge and Ninja Trials.
- New missions on Ninja Trials for Shadows of the World.
- Return of Alternate Costumes.
- Additional enemy variations.
- Reduced amounts of QTEs.
- The Ki bar no longer resets after clearing an area.
- Improved enemy A.I. and attacks, including suicide attacks.

- Revamp of "Steel on Bone" mechanic to be a chainable grab counter.
- Revamp of Ninpo mechanic adding multiple types of Ninpo with different effects and bar lengths.

- Much faster Kunai Climbing and removal of various sections were removed and replaced with the Flying Bird Flip.
- Ultimate Techniques can be charged without having to kill enemies.
