As you're going around, completing races, cops will come after you and make it their job to stop your car. Depending on what you did, your Heat Level will be from one to six, with increasing aggression at higher levels. Players can raise their Heat Level by crashing into cars, wrecking police vehicles and damaging property.
Players will be busted instantly if they wreck their vehicle, which only occurs if it sustains a lot of damage. Players can use repair shops to fix their vehicle, but each repair shop can only be used once during a pursuit.
Players can evade the police by either driving out of the police pursuit circle on the map. This will put players into Cooldown, which means they will need to stay away from the police until they are cleared. They can also enter Cooldown Spots, which decrease the time required for evasion. Before they are shown on your map, they must be found by exploring.
