Killzone: Mercenary is a first-person shooter set in the Killzone universe, where you can play either a single-player campaign or in multiplayer. The game offers the biggest weapon loadout in all of the Killzone games, as well as utilizes the system's touch screen and rear touch panel.
Game Modes
Players, upon starting the game, will be able to choose between a single-player campaign and the multiplayer. The campaign is divided into nine missions, that once completed, can be replayed as many times as wanted. In addition to this, Contracts are unlocked after completing a mission, allowing the player to replay them with extra objectives that offer specific playstyles.
Multiplayer can support up to eight players, across six maps and three different game types. As they complete objectives and kill enemies, they earn money that can be used to purchase additional weapons and equipment. Things bought in one mode will already be unlocked in the other, so players can still progress across both modes by sticking to one.
Valor Cards
Valor Cards are a special way of showing how you play (like what weapon you use) and your skill level. Every player has one and they are awarded a new one every 24 hours based on their earnings, compared to everyone else. Your Valor Card rank can increase, as well as decrease. It is based on a real-life deck of cards, with 2 being the lowest and the Ace being the highest.
In Multiplayer, enemies will drop their Valor Card when killed, which can be picked up by the player and added to their personal collection, as well as earning them money based on the rank of the card. As they fill their collection out, the cards can be placed into hands that can gain the player large monetary rewards.
In order to switch suits, players will have score consecutive kills with a specific weapon type, which is as follows:
- Clubs – 7 consecutive kills with an assault rifle or LMG
- Hearts – 5 consecutive kills with a secondary weapon
- Spades – 3 consecutive kills with a sniper rifle
- Diamonds – 4 consecutive kills with an SMG
