Painkiller: Hell & Damnation - Gameplay

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is the latest entry in the tradtional first-person shooter series Painkiller. It's actually both a sequel and a HD remake, featuring a selection of 14 levels from the original Painkiller as well as the Battle out of Hell expansion.

Core Gameplay

The basic premise of the game is to fight your way through hordes of hellish creatures and monsters in order to reach the end of the level, which come together to form several chapters, with each chapter featuring a new location, monsters, theme, and boss battle.

The weapons available to the player include a number of classic ones (such as the titular Painkiller), as well as new weapons which have been added for this remake/sequel, including the Soulcatcher, which allows the player to shoot saw blades at enemies before then sucking their souls into the device.

Game Modes

Campaign

Unlike many campaign modes, Hell & Damnation has the ability to be played by two people. To compensate, the level of difficulty increases in accordance with to the two players by adding more enemies and increasing their hit points.

Survival

In survival mode, up to eight players battle for survival in a small arena with endless waves of enemies attacking the player(s). This is similar to the infamous Horde Mode from the Gears of War series.

Multiplayer

Hell & Damnation also includes several player vs. player modes, such as:

  • Deathmatch
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Capture the Flag
  • Duels
