Transistor features similar isometric gameplay to Supergiant's previous game Bastion, however instead of being a traditional isometric action-RPG, Transistor will allow the player to pause the on-screen action in order to survey the battlefield, in similar fashion to turn-based strategy games. The game is being designed to 'seamlessly integrate thoughtful strategic planning into a fast-paced action experience'.

Enemies move in real time, but Red can pause the action to select targets and chain a series of attacks, which she then releases all at once.
Players will wield the titular Transistor, an extraordinary weapon of unknown origin, as they explore the futuristic city that is the setting for the game.
