The Mage is the only class that can learn and use Spells and by nature, is not meant to be on the frontlines. They are also not meant for long ranged combat, with bows and the like, but players should keep them at a medium to long range to make sure their spells can hit enemies.
Note that in order to become a Mage in the free character creation (not predetemined classes), you will need to spend 500 of the given 10,000 AP.
