Spells are only available to your characters if they are a Mage, otherwise, they do not have access to them at all during your playthrough. They are split up into three distinctive groups, which are Damage Spells, Protection Spells, Strengthening Spells and Weakening Spells. Players can get new spells by either learned them from books or going to a Trainer NPC.
As with Talents, each Spell has up to four levels that change the way the Spell works as you level them up. They have thresholds at ranks 0, 8, 13 and 18 and sometimes the Spell will behave in a different manner as it levels up. For example, Cold Shock goes from a single-target spell to hitting the entire map at level 4.
Another commonality with Talents is that each Spell is governed by three Attributes. Whenever you go to cast a Spell in combat, the game rolls a die for each Attribute and if the roll is below your Attribute for all three, then the Spell is go on without a hitch. If not, then the Spell will fail.
