Peggle 2's gameplay is similar to that of the original Peggle, which was inspired by the games Pachinko and Bagatelle. The game is divided into stages and the player is given a limited supply of balls on each stage with the challenge of shooting them at clusters of orange-coloured pegs, the goal being to clear out all of the marked pegs and achieve a high a score as possible.
Peggle Masters
The game features a number of 'Peggle Masters', which are the cartoon characters seen on the bottom left of the screenshots on this page. Each Peggle Master has certain special powers, which are activated to help the player clear a stage.
In the original Peggle, there were a total of 10 Masters. Although the total number of Masters in Peggle 2 has yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that the game will feature returning Masters like Bjorn, as well as some all-new Peggle Masters with their own unique magic powers.
Luna, who is a new character, has access to a power called Nightshade, for example. When Nightshade is activated (see image on the right), for the next two turns the level will be changed quite dramatically so that all of the blue pegs vanish, making it much easier to hit the orange pegs.
Masters in Peggle 2 are fully animated, unlike those in the original, and are reactive, which means they will react to the player's performance on the level in real time.
Fever
Extreme Fever is achieved when all of the orange-coloured pegs identified at the start of the level have been successfully removed by the player. Each Master also has a unique 'Extreme Fever' celebration, which causes the Master in the corner to animate in unique ways as a reward for achieving Extreme Fever.

Levels
The game is divided into dozens of distinct stages, or levels. Peggle 2 will feature an entirely new set of levels, as well as unique challenges to help mix up the gameplay.
Levels in Peggle 2 are also set to feature more objects that act like bumpers in pinball games, keeping the ball in play for longer (one example shown in early gameplay demonstrations is a set of eyeballs that move up and down the screen).
