Rocksmith 2014 Edition is a musical rhythm game which works by making you connect a real electric guitar to the machine to learn and play hits for real. The goal is to develop your skills to be able to learn how to play the guitar for real, with the game being more of a learning tool than an actual game.
Players start out by learning the mechanics of using a real guitar, from how to position their hands, to eventually learning advanced techniques. They are shown how to play simple notes, one at a time, and will evolve into playing full, actual songs.

Setup
The retail copy of the game comes with a cable used to connect your electric guitar to your machine. For the digital version, you must purchase a cable sepparately.

New Features
As a replacement game for the first Rocksmith, the 2014 Edition takes most of its predecesor's features and makes innovative changes to improve the game experience.
Game Modes
There are several Game Modes, including: Session Mode where players can perform jam sessions with in-game musicians, Master Mode where people can train their musical memory or Minigames with several fun ways to play. Challenges will popup and be offered to you to help you improve your skills.
Development Paths
In Rocksmith 2014, you can start your "career" through three development paths: lead, rhythm guitar and bass. You will progressively go through different song difficulties starting from the lowest or pick your own difficulty based on your self-assessed skill level.
The game goes more towards the direction of a teaching tool instead of one of a game. There are more than 85 lessons covering accens, slides, bends and more. A finger positioning has been added to help players better understand the finger techniques.
Learning and Playing
Rocksmith 2014 offers a bunch of tutorials meant to teach new or advanced players important strategies like holding the guitarpick, tapping and more. You can start from basic lessons and go up to the most advanced techniques.
While playing, you will get real time feedback to see what you are doing right or wrong. It will tell you if you are on the wrong string, bending too hard, etc. and it will also tell you what must you do to fix your mistake.

You have complete control over your playing enviroment, meaning that you can even replay sections of the song to improve your performance. The Riff Repeater allows you to isolate a section of a song, such as a solo, enabling you to practice it over and over until you finally get it right.
Guitarcade
Guitarcade is a collection of mini-games, designed to continue teaching how to play the guitar, under the disguise of playing arcade games. Each Guitarcade has different challenges you can fulfill, as well as different rules.
