Tom Clancy's The Division is a third-person shooter and uses the genre's standard trope of cover-based combat, featuring varied weaponry and items. As with many other modern third-person shooters, The Division also features RGP-like elements. Although there are no classes, there are skill trees to advance through.
Survival
Players must scavenge for supplies, including food and water, with the starting inventory only offering three days' worth of essential supplies. Everything from weapons to ammo to the food and water must be found through exploration of the city.
Inventory
The Backpack is a piece of equipment in The Division. Players have a backpack and at the start of the game each one is filled with 72 hours' worth of supplies. Beyond that, you have to find your own supplies in the game world.
Smart Watch
Smart Watch is the main piece of equipment used by players to communicate between agents. When triggered, the pulse scans the environment and displays relevant information, such as infection status, locations or useful items.
Additionally, it acts as the HUD, displaying the player's inventory, skills, options, crafting, and a map of the world.
Companion App
The Divisions will feature a companion app that allows players to take part in the game via a tablet.
Tablet players gain access to a birds-eye view of the section of the game being explored by players. From here they gain access to a number of different skills (each with cooldowns) that they can use to either help or hinder the other players. These include the ability to summon a drone that will heal/revive teammates or call in offensive abilities like air strikes.
