Classes in EverQuest Next aren't set up to how they normally are in other MMORPGs, where the player would pick one at character creation and be stuck with it throughout that character's life. Upon creating a new character, players will be able to pick one of eight different classes. As they explore the world, they will be able to gain access to plenty of other classes.
Each class in the game is leveled up individually from one another. There will be a total of 40 classes at the game's launch, and each class will have abilities that fit into one of four categories, which are Movement, Offensive, Defensive and Utility. A class will have four slots that fit around their lore and the above categories.
For example, A Wizard might have two Movement slots, one Defensive and one Offensive. That player switches to another class with one Movement slot, two Offensive and one Utility. When that player is that second class, they will be able to equip one of the Movement abilities from the Wizard class (such as Teleport, so you could have a teleporting Warrior).
