Mighty No. 9 is a classic Japanese side-scrolling action game that plays similar to the Mega Man series of games. You take control of Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, as he takes on the other Mighty Numbers. They have gone berserk after being infected with a mysterious virus, holing themselves in strategic locations around the world.
Game Modes
In addition to the single player mode, Mighty No. 9 will feature extra modes that will allow other players to join, as well as provide more challenges.
Single Player
The single player mode is set up like the classic Mega Man games, where players will have access to a total of eight stages that are each themed around a particular Mighty Number, with the order being chosen by the player. The goal of each stage is to fight your way to the end, where Beck will have to face off against one of the Mighty Numbers.
Boss Rush Mode
You'll be able to fight against all of the Mighty Numbers back-to-back, with the game keeping track of how long it takes to defeat them all. There will likely be leaderboards for this mode.
Co-op/Challenge Mode
The game will take snippets of the single-player levels and remix them to create dozens of mini-missions for the player to complete. There will also be an online co-op version of this, centering around using both Beck and Call, with different missions revolving around cooperative play.
Online Battle Race Mode
You and a friend will battle across customized versions of the single-player stages, competing against each other. The other player will appear as a ghost to their competitor, where the enemies they defeat will be sent over the other player's stage. This will be the only way possible to impede the other player's progress, as you won't be able to directly do it.
Abilities
At the end of each stage, players will face off against one of the Mighty Numbers. Defeat them and Beck will be able to utilize one of their powers throughout the rest of the game. These powers can be used as a weakness on other bosses, as well as access secret areas in stages. Instead of just obtaining a weapon, Beck will be able to transform.
One example given is being able to transform into a tank and moving on top of spikes, which normally would instantly kill Beck. It's not just the bosses that will give Beck new powers, as defeating normal enemies in certain ways will bestow him with temporary powers, like a double jump or a speed boost.
