Raven's Cry is a third person action/adventure game with RPG elements. Players take on the role of pirate hunter Christopher Raven as he tries to track down and kill the brutal pirates responsible for massacring his village, killing his parents, and chopping off one of his hands.
Role Playing Elements
Raven's Cry features a number of traditional RPG elements, including a morality system and a notoriety system, which will affect how NPCs in the world react towards you. Accrue 'Fear', for example, and some enemies will be scared away from engaging in combat with you, but the downside is that anyone in the area who is not frightened away will become hostile to you.
The more brutal and murderous you are, the more you'll acquire 'Notoriety', which will be reflected in the game world with, for example, posters of you appearing on the streets. There will also be sidequests in the game, although no details on them have been released.
Combat
The combat in Raven's Cry aims to be historically accurate, with weapons taken from the period (including an array of swords, pistols, knives and axes) and the ability to engage in one-on-one duels.
Christopher Raven notably has a hook in place of his hand, which was chopped of by pirates, and which he can use in combat. He also has a companion raven, which will scout for you.
Naval Battles
Tactical naval battles, like those found in the Assassin's Creed series will feature.
Magic Items
Items can be acquired in the game which increase your character attributes. For example, Pirate Charms can be equipped which give you certain abilities, such as invincibility, summon abilities, attack speed/damage increases, and even magical abilities.
