Similar to the anime and manga, Aincrad is split up into different floors, where the sole goal is to defeat that floor's boss in order to proceed. However, things aren't as simple as going straight for the boss. Each floor has three tasks given to you that must be completed, which are:
- To locate the boss room
- Complete a specific quest related to that floor (talk to Kirby in the Teleport Area of Arc Sophia)
- And defeat a NM enemy
There are three tips given to you on the Guilds page, regarding the boss of that floor. One is automatically given to you, while completing a quest and defeating the NM target enemy will reveal the other two.
As you're exploring the floors, you will sometimes encounter events where Assault Team members will require your assistance. This will help increase their levels and the overall team strength, making the boss battle go a lot more smoothly.

| The Last Attack bonus is something that occurs only during the boss battles in Aincrad, and it is required for the Beta Tester trophy. Basically, you will need to have the last attack that kills the boss, which will reward you with a unique piece of equipment. The best thing to do is to order everyone to back off (hold L and press down on the D-pad) whenever the boss' health is low enough. If you want the Beta Tester trophy, however, you will need to keep all equipment gotten in your inventory. This means that you can't give the items to your partners, even though some of them are female only. |
