Far Cry 4 is an open world first person shooter, with what seems like a lot of elements borrowed from Far Cry 3. Players will be able to freely explore the island at their leisure while completing main story missions, side missions, and other objectives. Players can take out enemies, hijack vehicles, and use aircraft such as helicopters.
General Gameplay
The game utilizes an open world, which players are free to explore at their leisure. It is split up into pseudo-regions, which are "scrambled" on the game's map, which can be revealed if the player activates the Bell Towers. In addition to normal human enemies, the player will encounter others, such as wildlife (tigers and bears are two examples).
Far Cry 4 is set up using a mission structure, with the main missions bringing you through the game's story. In addition, there are side missions that are optional that will reward the player with cash and other items, such as being able to get skins from rare animals for crafting.
Combat
Stealth, as always, is a key part of this game. When capturing areas, taking out groups of enemies, etc. stealth is your one way of easily disposing of your targets. Being detected can lead to a ruined plan and possibly a difficult battle, although players aren't forced to use just stealth.

On the other hand, the player gets many different guns at his disposal, some of which they get for free and others that require the player to buy them with money. These weapons range from the standard pistols to submachine guns and even assault rifles and rocket launchers.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer will offer both a cooperative and competitive aspect in Far Cry 4. In competitive multiplayer, players will be split between one of two factions, either Pagan Min's elite guard, the Rakshasa, or the Golden Path rebellion. Players will be able to participate in one of three modes, called Outpost, Propaganda, and Demon Mask. Each faction has access to different abilities and weapons.
Cooperative Multiplayer
Instead of separate missions, like in Far Cry 3, players will be able to join the world with another player in two-person drop-in/drop-out cooperative play. Players will be able to do everything in the game that they are able to do in single-player, including the main story missions, taking outposts and even hunting animals.
Keys to Kyrat
A Playstation exclusive, Keys to Kyrat offers players ten keys, in which they can invite their friends to play a cooperative session with them. This works for people who don't even own the game, but the sessions are limited to just two hours for each key. There are no limitations on what can be done in the game, though.
Arena

Arena mode is a new gamemode in which the player is placed in an arena full of cheering crowds. In a gladiator style fight, you must fight against a series of animals including tigers, elephants, and even other humans. Arena is in singleplayer and is part of the story itself.
Level Editor
Very little is known about the Level Editor function. It is thought to be similar to the editor that was present in Far Cry 3, which allowed players to create their maps for competitive multiplayer.
