You will be able to tell the differnece between a Walker and a survivior pretty easily, as the Walker has obvious wounds, a different skin colour and also have jerky movements.
Although they are generally slow, there is a different variation between the ranks with others having better alertness, moving speed and attacking speed. You will rarely encounter one on it's own, as they are in groups of three or more.
Sometimes you may come across some Walkers in prone position giving of the impression that they're dead. It can be pretty difficult to tell the difference so be cautious. If you do have any doubt, kick the body and make sure.
Another thing to look out for is if you see another Walker feeding on a corpse, meaning taking some bites out of dead body. The victim may rise as a Walker.
