Niantic Labs opened a new studio in Tokyo, Japan, on December 3rd.
Setsuto Murai will head up the new studio (he previously worked at Google Japan, top telco NTT, and Japanese Internet conglomerate GMO), which will assist in the development of augmented reality games, such as the upcoming mobile game Pokemon Go.
Niantic Labs used to be part of Google but was spun off. Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, and Google invested $20 million in the company back in October.
