Nintendo has been going strong since 1889 as a card company, and then evolving into the game company we know today in 1974. The man responsible for this remarkable transformation was the third president, Hiroshi Yamauchi. The man took a company from making Hanafuda Cards to making the games we know and love today. However today is a sad day indeed.
Today, September 19, Hiroshi Yamauchi passed away. At age 85, Yamauchi passed leaving the gaming giant in a successful state.
Though he was the one who started the gaming transition, he wasn't a soft one about it. Almost every game idea presented to him was rejected, even those that were far in development. The man had a great taste in games and certainly knew which ones would work out and which ones wouldn't. It wasn't until the Legendary Game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, stepped in that Nintendo made much games. The young student went to work right away and thought up our favorite plumber, Mario. Yamauchi, being as keen as he was, accepted it; look where it is today. Star Fox was also brought to him and he accepted it. Yamauchi was a remarkable president and really did leave the company in a perfect state.
Nintendo has released a statement saying they will continue the legacy that he created for as long as they can.
He will be missed: 1927-2013
