After a fairly queit holiday, it seems the Xbox One vs PS4 power debate is back in full swing. According to Tomb Raider executive producer Scot Amos, Tomb Raider runs unlocked on both consoles in its definitive edition release. They claim it runs above 30fps on both systems, but the average is near 60 on the PS4 while it's nearer to 30 on the Xbox One, with the Xbox One reaching a peak of only 45 fps in still moments of play.
Square Enix, for their part, responded with a PR-friendly response to ease fan fears when questioned by Eurogamer. "Both platforms offer the same outstanding Tomb Raider experience. Delivering the core Tomb Raider gameplay at native 1080p and running at 30fps was always our primary goal given the type of experience Tomb Raider is and the exploration we want players to do. Anything beyond 30fps for this version is gravy."
The response tactfully avoids mentioning where the actual framerates tend to rest on each console. I suspect this won't be the last time the framerate and resolution controversy rises on big multiplatform games.
