Mario Kart 8 Gets Mercedes-Benz Car as Free DLC in Japan

Racing in Mario Kart is unlike real life, with a variety of dangerous and explosive items that somehow leave all karts functioning and undamaged. But now, at least in Japan, a real life Mercedes-Benz car will be part of the action. Nintendo and Mercedes-Benz announced that the new Mercedes GLA car will be appearing in Mario Kart 8 this summer, and it will be free to download.

Attached to the announcement was this short trailer for the DLC, which is equal parts bizarre and awesome.

Though the Mercedes GLA DLC is currently a Japanese exclusive, it may not stay that way for long. A Nintendo representative told IGN that "The announcement this time was made by Mercedes-Benz Japan regarding their collaboration in Japan with NCL, and as for the information relating to the distribution of the GLA kart for MK8 outside Japan, we will be able to announce in the near future."

First go-karts, now Mercedes-Benz cars, are we on the path to a Nintendo racer that rivals Gran Turismo and Forza?
