Things haven’t been going swimmingly for Crytek over the last few months. Some of these troubles include big name employees leaving for other developers and the news that financial difficulties mean they haven’t paid many of their employees for a number of months. Things changed last week when employees finally got paid for their uncompensated months of work, after Crytek found a new source of capital.
Today the source of that capital has been revealed as Deep Silver’s parent company Koch Media buying the Homefront IP from Crytek. With this sale Crytek has decided to close their UK studio, which was working on Homefront: The Revolution. But those employees of the now-closing studio won’t need to look for work - most are being hired by the new Deep Silver Dambuster Studio, and its first project will be to complete Homefront: The Revolution.
Along with the closure of Crytek UK it has also been confirmed that Hunt: Horrors of the Guilded Age will be moved from their Austin studio to their Frankfurt studio. Their Austin studio (made up of ex-Vigil Games members) will be cutting jobs, and now will be used solely as a support team for North American developers who use the CryEngine toolkit. Crytek will be offering those who lost their job in Austin a chance to apply to work in the German studio, which is about 5,296 miles away from their current studio.
