Eva is the mother of Devil May Cry protagonist, Dante, and wife to the demon Sparda. At the age of 8, Eva gave Dante and Vergil one half of her amulet to remember her by. When Sparda betrayed Mundus to protect humanity, Mundus killed Eva right before Dante's eyes in a fit of revenge.
In major difference between the original Devil May Cry and the rebooted DmC is that Eva was an angel and it was this reason that Mundus killed her and exiled Sparda for eternity.
