Maria is the wife of Joel's brother, Tommy, and a non-playable character in The Last of Us. Sometime after the outbreak Maria and her father set up a settlement in Jackson County, using a hydroelectric power plant to conduct electricity for it. This was where she met Tommy and the two eventually got married.
When Joel and Ellie arrive at the plant Maria fears that Tommy will get roped into helping Joel and get himself killed.
