Guan Yu was one of the more prominent generals under the kingdom of Shu, having served as one of the Five Tiger Generals until his death in 219. Before the Yellow Turban Rebellion, he swore an oath with both Liu Bei and Zhang Fei, becoming like brothers. He is known for his long and well-kept beard, earning him the nickname of "Beautiful Beard." He is also revered even in today's society as Guandi, the God of righteousness, brotherhood and justice.
Guan Yu was one of the characters that has been in every single Dynasty Warriors game, from the first one to the newest one. His weapon in the Dynasty Warriors games has always been a guan dao, or Chinese polearm. He has also appeared in plenty of other games, including the Kessen series, Dynasty Tactics, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Warriors Orochi.
