Toad - Creation

Toad's appearance, as well as all of the ones of the Toad species, were modeled after the Super Mushroom powerup. Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned that his design was simplistic, while also appearing cute and pleasing to everyone. His name comes from toadstool, which is used to describe mushrooms in general, even those with the cap and stem characteristics. Toad's Japanese name, Kinopio, is a mix between kinoko (Japanese word for mushroom) and Pinokio (Japanese name for Pinocchio).
