Although Toad has appeared in a lot of games as a NPC, there have been a number of them where he has been playable. The first game in which he was playable was Super Mario Bros. 2, where he joined Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool. Toad is the worst jumper in the game, although he is the fastest in running speed and picking things up.
Toad appears in all of the Mario Kart games, usually as a lightweight racer. His greatest asset is his acceleration, which attributes to his top speed. He appears as the sole protagonist in Wario's Woods, where he is tasked with stopping Wario, who has taken control over Peaceful Forest.
He only appears as a playable character in the Virtual Boy version of Mario's Tennis, as well as the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis. Toad appears in the Mario Party series, but doesn't become playable until Mario Party 5, which thereafter he is always a playable character. In the Mario Baseball series, he is playable and a character with well-rounded stats. He is a playable character in the Itadaki Street series as well.
