Similar to the Assault Rifle, this weapon is better at longer ranges and like the Assault Rifle, it won't be used often. However, in some areas, you will find yourself in a large room and if you are playing with a good team then it might be beneficial to have someone use this weapon to thin enemy numbers on walls and ceilings.
This weapon excels at longer ranges at which you are likely to be engaging humans rather than Aliens. On these levels, the Battle Rifle is an excellent weapon.
