In Plants vs Zombies, the Plants are the player's main way of defending themselves from the incoming Horde of Zombies. These Plants are placed on a grid in which zombies attack from. The Player loses once the Zombies break through their defenses and go into the player's home.
Gameplay
In order to Plant plants, the player must gather Sunlight. Each plant has a varying sunlight cost. By meeting these costs, the player can put down plants. Each plant the player have do different things. Some will give the player sunlight from time to time, some will act as a shield or support, while others will attack the zombies.

Zombies are the antagonists in Plants vs Zombies. They player will lose if they fail to defend against the Zombies.
There are a large number of Zombies that the player must defend against. Some zombies will call more zombies, some will jump over your defenses, while others focus on completely destroying your defenses in varying ways.

Mini-Games
Plants vs Zombies offers many minigames. There is ZomBotany, Wall-nut Bowling, Slot Machine, and Vase Breaker.
ZomBotany
In ZomBotany, the player must defend themselves against a horde of zombies. However, there is an added twist. Some Zombies will have plant heads such as the basic pea shooter. These special zombies will have the same abilities as their head indicates.
Wall-nut Bowling
In Wall-nut Bowling, the player is given random plants on a conveyer belt. The player however only recieves Wall-nuts or Explode-o-Nuts. The player must skillfully roll the Plants down a lane to kill an incoming Horde of Zombies. Whenever the player bounces the plants and hit each zombies an additional time, the player will earn more coins which can then be used to unlock more upgrades and plants.
Slot Machine
Slot Machine is a mini-game where the plants are moved down on a conveyer belt. These plants are random but the player can put down as much plants as they want with no cost. However, the player must skillfully place each plant at a decisive spot in order to stop the horde of Zombies from breaching their defenses.
Vase Breaking
Vase Breaking is just as it sounds. The player must destroy a group of vases by clicking on them. However, inside the vases will spawn Zombies or plants. If Zombies are spawned, the player must try to defend themselves by breaking another Vase to try and find a plant to place down to defend themselves. If the Zombies make it through, the player loses.
