Dawn of the new world uses a modified version of the traditional Tales system called the flex range element enhanced linear motion battle system. this system is a combination of tale sof the abyss and Tales of Destiny remake's battle system which in tur makes Dawn of the new world system quite similar to Tales of Innocence. Full 3d movement in all directions is possible and Artes are possible in midair and can be combined for a long string of combos.
Dawn of the new world also allows the player to capture a variety of monsters from the games world. The monsters can then participate in battle as well as level up and evolve under certain conditions. Since Emil and Marta are the only human characters whose levels can go past 50 The monster system is something that is rather essential for the latter half of the game and a variety of sidequests.
In the tales series Artes are used to dish out extra damage aside from typical character combos. In general these abilities are learned over the course of the game by leveling and in some cases side events. Moves are usually designated to one button and 4 artes can be mapped Linking these moves with your normal combos is the bread and butter of the Tales series in terms of being offensive.
