During the events of the first game Lloyd irving Went on a journey to save two worlds and as a result the two worlds merged together though everything is not for the better. The world changes in a lot of negative ways and the citizens suffer for it. To make matters worse the people of the two worlds have issues with each other for a variety of reasons leading to a much larger conflict. A war breaks out called the blood purge and Lloyd is known to have lead it, a young boy by the name of Emil lost his parents to the blood purge.
Emil is a young timid boy though with the help of a summon spirit by the name of tenebrae he becomes a knight of ratatosk and gains considerable power and a different personality when fighting his enemies. Emil gains a companion by the name of Marta who decides to travel with him after falling in love with Emil rather quickly. The journey takes many turns as Emil has a hate for Lloyd that many people don't as he blames him for his parent’s death. Though as he travels and meets Lloyd’s previous companions he learns that the person who caused the blood purge couldn't be who he is searching for.
