The game begins with a scene where Drake and a reporter (Elena Fisher) are on a boat, opening up a coffin. Eventually, some pirates will show up and you'll be armed with a pistol. Hold L1 to aim and press R1 to shoot, and should your clip be running out, press R2 to reload. If you need to use cover, press Circle next to any of the objects to hide. The Square button is your melee button, and when you're close to an enemy, press Square a total of 5 times to deliver a devastating melee combo.
The first few enemies you come across will stay on their boats, so aim and shoot them, preferably in the head to save time and ammo. Should you need more ammo, you can find them on the ground, so just press Triangle when you're over some to pick it up. The pirates will eventually come on board your ship, so take cover and shoot them.
Feel free to follow the in-game tutorial on melee combos, one of which is a brutal combo (Square, Triangle, Square). Keep killing the pirates as they come on board until a boat with a turret gun and a RPG enemy show up and circle your boat. Press the L2 button when it's on screen to see Sully fly around in a plane and come to your rescue.
