Azeroth is a world brimming with conflict, especially on PvP servers. This means that, sooner or later, you will encounter members of the opposite faction. If you are in Friendly Territory, they won’t be able to attack you unless you decide to strike first, but be ready to fight to the death if you are in Contested Territory. Random encounters against other players can be very exciting—as are massive raids into enemy capital cities—and constitute a nice change of pace from the structured combat found in Battlegrounds and Arenas. Walk softly, carry a big sword, and bring backup… yeah, backup.
DUELING
If you prefer an honorable and not-so-lethal way to put your skills to the test, engaging in a friendly sparring match with another player might be your mug of ale. While these contests of strength and prowess do not yield tangible rewards, you might become well-known among the informal dueling circles that gather outside the gates of Orgrimmar (Horde) or Stormwind (Alliance). To throw down the gauntlet, target your would-be opponent and type /duel, or select the appropriate option after right clicking on his/her portrait. You should try fisticuffs too, for they are the basis of all combat.
INTEREST IN CONFLICT
Deadly boss monsters have risen to roam the lands of Azeroth and beyond. Anyone with the will, and the forces to do so, may stand against their onslaught to claim the objects of power they so zealously hoard. Yet, don’t expect an easy battle. The challenge attracts fighters from both factions, ambushes are set, traps are sprung, and blood makes the grass grow. It’s very likely that enemy raiders will try to sabotage your efforts; make sure they pay for their audacity.

TARGETS OF OPPORTUNITY
In some parts of the world you’ll stumble upon areas of interest to both factions. To secure said areas of interest, certain conditions have to be met. Be careful, however, as attempting to capture a structure—or sometimes just wandering into any of these areas—will turn you into a potential target. Prove your worth by successfully completing objectives and you’ll be able to purchase cool battle gear and mounts.
