History
Near the end of the Third War, after the Plague of Lordaeron, a large contignent of the Scourge was able to break free of the Lich King's will. Among them was a former elven general named Sylvanas Windrunner, who rallied most of the newly freed undead together, and established an independent faction of undead called the Forsaken. Under Sylvanas' leadership, the Forsaken took control of a significant portion of Lordaeron, and established their home, the Undercity, beneath the ruins of its capital.
However, the Forsaken soon found that they were unable to either procreate like they could in life, or reanimate the fallen like the Scourge. Thus, they found themselves hopelessly outnumbered by their enemies. Seeing no other option, Sylvanas sent emissaries to various factions in search of allies. The Alliance's reply was succinct; they deemed their very existence blasphemous and vowed to destroy them in vengeance for the destruction of Lordaeron. However, the attempts to negotiate with the Horde were met with more success, and Warchief Thrall eventually accepted them into the Horde, earning the Horde an invaluable foothold in the Eastern Kingdoms. The alliance with the Horde is for all intents and purposes one of pure convenience, but in recent times it appears that many Forsaken have become more or less loyal members of the Horde.
