Metal Gear Solid V is a third-person stealth-action game, similar to other entries in the series. Players use sneaking and camoflauge in order to avoid being seen by enemies.
In the aftermath of the events in Ground Zeroes, Big Boss falls into a coma for nine years and upon awakening forms a new mercenary group, the Diamond Dogs, assuming the codename "Punished Snake". In search of the men responsible for MSF's destruction, he ventures to Afghanistan during the Soviet war, where he encounters former rival, Ocelot. While initially driven to exact revenge, he soon unearths a plot by the Cipher organization to develop a weapon with the potential to surpass even the Metal Gear system.
Open World
Metal Gear Solid V is the first in the series to offer open-world gameplay with a real-time night and day time cycle, which will affect how players can move around the world and how many enemies there are, as well as weather effects.
In contrast to other Metal Gear games, players now have the option to do missions at their own pace and in whatever order they choose.
Transportation
Players will have multiple options for traversing this new open-world, including horses, helicopters, airplanes, and motorcycles.
Horseback Riding
Horseback riding has been revealed in Metal Gear Solid V as a method of transportation in the world. In addition to using horses to get around, players will be able to sneak on a horse, hanging off the side to become hidden.

Vehicles
Various vehicles are found in the game, including helicopters, motorcycles, and airplanes. These vehicles can be used to traverse the world freely. Additionally, Big Boss will be able to call a helicopter as needed, and this helicopter can take players to their base.
Home Base
Metal Gear Solid V will offer a system that allows players to build their own home base, similar to that found in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Here, players will be able to create their own weapons and items for use in the game.
Players can access this base at any time while exploring the world and Kojima has hinted that it may be possible for players to access their home base using a smartphone.
