Wii Fit U is a fitness game. It follows previous entries in the series, focusing most of its gameplay on minigames intended to help exercise certain parts of the player's body.
Activities
Wii Fit U makes use of the Wii Balance Board from previous iterations on the Wii. The Balance Board is used in many of the game's exercises to keep track of weight, movements, and calories burned. When used outside of exercises, it can calculate the user's BMI and center of balance.
The game features over 70 different activities, many of which return from Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus. Each game is designed to train a particular part of the body, which is indicated from the menu. Save data may be transferred from Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus. The overall health progress of the player is recorded over time.
Many activities now take advantage of the Wii U's Gamepad. This is also the first Wii Fit game to not need to use a television. The entire game can be played using just the Wii U Gamepad and the Balance Board.
For more information on the various activities, check out the Mini-Games section.
The Fit Meter
The Fit Meter is a small circular plastic peripheral that comes packed with the Wii Fit U and has a pedometer, altimeter and an atmospheric sensor in it, which you can take with you on your daily exercise / routine. The pedometer tracks the number of steps you take when you walk, jog or run.

The altimeter determines at what level the number of steps you took. So for example, if your daily walk includes going up and down steep roads or paths, you will get more credit than compared to a walk along a straight road.
The atmospheric pressure sensor will measure your distance from sea level i.e. how high above or how low you are compared to sea level. This is because it takes more effort to walk or jog if you are in an area above or below sea level since the air is thinner there.
You can then point the Fit Meter towards the infrared sensor on the Wii U Gamepad and the Wii Fit U game will compile a complete visual report of your overall activity and tell you how many calories you have burned. Two players can also compare stats by pointing their Fit Meter towards the other player's, as it also works with dogs.
Gym Communities
Wii Fit U features an online mode, which introduces private Miiverse communities, which can be created between friends and kept exclusive using a Gym Community ID number. This allows people to compare their progress with that of their friends without needing to make it public online.
Personal Training
Personal Training is a customization option new to the series. This lists all of the minigames available within the game and lets players organize them into any sort of playlist they choose. Once the activities are selected and ordered, the game displays approximately how long it will take to complete all of the activities and how many calories will be burnt by them.
