Wasteland 2 is an RPG game that is being developed and published by inXile Entertainment, in partnership with Obsidian Entertainment, for the Microsoft Windows. It is the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 game Wasteland, which is the spiritual predecessor to the Fallout series. The game will include a copy of the original Wasteland when it releases.
Wasteland 2 is one of the most well known examples of a Kickstarter-funded video game. Brian Fargo, inXile's founder, launched a Kickstarter for the game following the success of Double Fine's Kickstarter project, Double Fine Adventure. The orignal goal of $900,000 was reached in only two days and it went on to make over 2.9 million dollars.
