Like previous entries in the series, the gameplay of Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is made up of Olympic event minigames. The events are broken into Olympic Events, which are based on real events, and Dream Events, which are unlockable, less-realistic events. There are sixteen Olympic Events and eight Dream Events, making twenty-four events overall.
