
Hiroshi Yamauchi was a Japanese businessman, born in Kyoto, Japan, and is credited for making Nintendo the video game company it is today, having transformed it from a hanafuda card-making company. In 1949, he became the third president of Nintendo, which he stayed as for more than fifty years, eventually being succeeded by Satoru Iwata in 2002. It was on September 19, 2013, that Yamauchi passed away due to complications from pneumonia.
