The Chinese video game market is expected to surpass that of the US to become the biggest market worldwide, according to a report released by Newzoo, as reported by GamesIndustry.
The US video game market is expected to reach $24.1 billion by 2018, while in China it is expected to reach $32.8 billion. The digital market accounts for a massive 97 percent of game sales in China, while in the US it accounts for 72 percent.
The mobile video game market is set for modest growth this year. Smartphone gaming is expected to grow 13.4 percent in the US in 2015, while tablet gaming is expected to grow 17.8 percent. In China, smartphone gaming is expected to grow 50 percent, while tablet gaming is expected to grow 39 percent.
The overall video game market is expected to hit $113.3 billion by 2018. That is an annual growth rate of 7.9 percent, starting in 2014.
