While good initial sales of the PS4 have gotten quite a few Sony fans hopeful for the console's prospects, the new generation of consoles as a whole has been notably trending behind sales of consoles in the last generation over the same time period. A recent survey completed by Raptr of 5,500 of their own multiplatform (PC + console) users suggests that might be about to change, and shows some other interesting data about these gamers.
73.4% of those surveyed said they would be upgrading either their computer or their console hardware in the next 12 months, but given that this survey comes from an online service for gamers it should come as no surprise that the bulk of these respondents were referring to PC upgrades such as an updated graphics card. Thankfully the survey results go into more detail, and show that 20.6% of the respondents were referring to a console upgrade.
It's important to note that any survey done on a biased sample can skew the results and I would call any survey by a company that only uses their own users/customers as a sample to be at least in some way biased. It's unlikely that this survey is therefore a perfect representation of all multiplatform gamers in general, but it's easy to imagine these figures being fairly representative.
