2014 was a big year for Adventure gaming, with genre icon Tim Schafer returning with the first chapter of his long-anticipated Broken Age, Telltale Games continuing their winning streak with the one-two punch of The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Wolf Among Us (followed by the debut of Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones), and Vita owners getting their own exclusive pair of adventures with the murderous Danganronpa and Danganronpa 2. Only one game can take our pick for Best Adventure Game of 2014, but lovers of narratives in gaming can’t go wrong with any of the nominees below.
The Nominees Are:
Broken Age: Act 1
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
The Walking Dead: Season 2
The Wolf Among Us
Year Walk
And the Winner is...
The Wolf Among Us
Telltale Games expectedly knocked it out of the park with The Walking Dead: Season 2, and yet somehow they managed to outdo themselves with The Wolf Among Us, their neo-noir drenched adaptation of the long-running Fables comic.
As expected of Telltale by now, The Wolf Among Us is filled rich, deep characters and beautifully written dialogue, but it also sees Telltale at their darkest and most gruesome. And as the mystery unravels in the shocking finale, players are treated with an ending so satisfying that the wait for Season 2 will leave them howling in anticipation.
