Even gamers who don't enjoy modern shooters must admit that 2014 was a genuinely good year for the shooter genre. The diversity seen in the genre this year greatly surpasses that of previous year. We saw the resurgence of over-the-top, mind-numbing action with Wolfenstein: The New Order and Far Cry 4, greater speed in the genre than ever before with Titanfall and Sunset Overdrive, and, overall, a greater emphasis placed on fun before anything else. Our faith in the shooter genre has been waning for a couple of years now, but 2014 has redeemed the shooter genre in our eyes.

Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4 is an extremely entertaining shooter romp. It allows players to cause mayhem and havoc in a beautiful and unique open world, filled to the brim with entertaining side missions and a vast variety of weapons to utilize. Far Cry 4 is not the most original shooter shortlisted for the award this year, but it is the most accomplished.
