On October 14, 2011, Square Enix announced that they would attempt to relaunch Final Fantasy XIV and called it Version 2.0. This was later dubbed A Realm Reborn and would completely change everything, from the graphics to the gameplay. It was on November 11, 2012, that Version 1.0 of the game ended. The alpha version of A Realm Reborn started soon after the first version ended, with a release coming some time in 2013.
The game will go through major changes, including the graphics engine, new server system, a new user interface, and some new features such as the FATE system (Full Active Time Event). In addition, the previous storyline ended, giving birth to the Seventh Umbral Era storyline, giving the game some story to the radical changes. Lastly, the PS3 version has been announced to release at the same time as the PC release.
