Relics in Shovel Knight are similar to the sub-weapons in the older Castlevania games. The player can both purchase them from shops and from Chester, a NPC that hides in chests throughout the game's main stages. Relics use magic, which is the blue number at the top, that can be replenished by picking up jars. Once a Relic has been gotten, the player can switch to them anytime during stages.
