Ludwig von Koopa is one of the Koopalings, a clan of seven members that are loyal to Bowser in the Super Mario series of games. He is considered the leader of the Koopalings, and is the oldest member of them. While many people thought they were Bowser's children, an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto pointed out that they are not related at all. He has wild blue hair, as well as blue eyebrows and a blue shell. He is named after the famous composer, Ludwig van Beethoven, with his hair also resembling Beethoven's a bit.
His first appearance was in Super Mario Bros. 3, where he was the boss of Pipe Maze, the seventh world, and the last Koopaling to be fought; the battle is similar in nature to Roy Koopa's battle. In Super Mario World, he is the boss of the fourth world (Twin Bridges) and had a unique attack pattern, which wasn't shared by any of the other Koopalings. He is the boss of the seventh world in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U, and the fifth world boss in New Super Mario Bros. 2. He also appears as a boss in Bowser's Castle in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, along with the rest of the Koopalings.
