Roy Koopa is one of the Koopalings, a clan of seven members that are loyal to Bowser in the Super Mario series of games. While many people thought they were Bowser's children, an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto pointed out that they are not related at all. Roy is a Koopaling that prefers using brute force over his brains, which is weird considering his primary color is pink. He has a purple shell and wears hot pink sunglasses, along with having two fangs in the corners of his mouth. He is named after Roy Orbison, the legendary musician.
His first appearance was in Super Mario Bros. 3, where he was the boss of the fifth world. He was also the boss of the fifth world in Super Mario World, where he shared almost the same battle layout as Morton Koopa Jr. It was in New Super Mario Bros. Wii that Roy would become the boss of the second world. He was demoted to being the first boss encountered in New Super Mario Bros. 2, while he was the boss of the sixth world in New Super Mario Bros. U. He also appeared in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, where he was a boss in Bowser's Castle on the stretch to the final boss.
