- Hearts - Donkey and Diddy's health in the game.
- KONG Letters - unlock an additional level in each world upon finding them all.
- Extra Life Balloon - gives the player an extra life.
- Mine Carts - are ridden by Donkey Kong in the Mine Cart levels.
- Rocket Barrel - ridden by Donkey Kong in the Rocket Barrel levels.
- Treasure Chests - sometimes contain useful items.
- Puzzle Pieces - collectable items that unlock art and dioramas.
- Map Keys - used to unlock locked paths on the map. Can be purchased in Cranky's Shop.
- Heart Boost - grants the player an extra hit-point. Can be purchased in Cranky's Shop.
- Banana Juice - a defensive item that lets the player sustain an extra ten hits. Can be purchased in Cranky's Shop.
- Rare Orbs - finding all eight in the game unlocks the Golden Temple.
