Major story spoilers ahead.
Negotiations with Franklin, a stranded
According to Dom, the fastest way to reach the facility would have been to borrow a Junker from a stranded named Franklin. Franklin agrees to give them the junker on one condition : Cole and Baird would have to stay behind to help him defend against any Locust attacks. Dom agrees to the condition and he and Marcus set out to get the Junker.

Soon it becomes night and the kryll(bat like creatures that attack anything in the dark), attack them. Dom and Marcus fight through the Locust forces(escaping the kryll), and reach Aspho's gas station where the Junker is parked. They take the junker and drive it back to Franklin. Dom and Marcus just arrive in time to defend Franklin's place from a large Locust attack. After defeating the Locust forces, the Delta squad moves onwards mining facility.
