Koopa Troopa first appeared in Super Mario Bros, they were regular enemies who served under Bowser. It wasn’t until around the N64 did non-hostile and even friendly koopas appeared, over time Koopas changed from regular grunt into a normal character used in many Mario franchises. In Mario Kart Wii Koopa Troopa is a small character and owns the Koopa Cape course.
